James S. Lewis, PharmD
Dr. James Lewis is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine – Division of Infectious Diseases at the
University of Texas Health Center. Additionally, he is the Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Programs Manager and Infectious Disease Clinical
Pharmacy Specialist at the University Health System in San Antonio, Texas, where he is also Pharmacy
Practice Residency Co-Director.
Dr. Lewis earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and Doctorate in Pharmacy from Washington State University. He
then did a pharmacy practice residency at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington followed by a
specialty residency in infectious diseases pharmacotherapy in a combined program at the University of Texas Health
Sciences Center at San Antonio and South Texas Veterans Health Care System.
Dr. Lewis has been published in several journals, including Clinical Infectious
Diseases, Pharmacotherapy, and Journal of Clinical Microbiology. He serves as a reviewer
for several publications, among which are the Journal of the American Medical Association, Clinical
Infectious Diseases, and Annals of Pharmacotherapy. His current main research interest is in antifungal
and antibacterial infections and therapy. He is also a member of the Texas Department of Health Committee for the
Judicious Use of Antibiotics. In 2006, Dr. Lewis was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Practice in Infectious Diseases
Pharmacotherapy by the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists. He is a member of several professional associations
including the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the American Society
of Microbiology.
