About MOVE on Mycoses

The Initiative

MOVE on Mycoses (Management Options and Vital Etiological Concepts – Effect ON Outcomes of Invasive Mycoses) is a broad-based, interdisciplinary, educational initiative with a full complement of interlocking activities that increase awareness of unmet medical needs in the prevention and treatment of invasive fungal infections (IFIs). An increasing number of immunocompromised patients, including transplant patients and those infected with HIV, results in more healthcare professionals being confronted with the prevention and treatment of serious IFIs. This initiative is a response to new developments in the management of life-threatening IFIs, including advances in in vitro techniques for the diagnosis of fungal infections as well as new therapeutics and their impact on treatment strategies.

The Approach

The individual activities comprising the MOVE on Mycoses initiative keep the adult learner in mind. Overall, the approach is multifaceted, interactive, long-term, and available from virtually anywhere, thus suiting a myriad of schedules and preferred methods of learning. Furthermore, a panel of nationally recognized clinical experts, known as the Fungal Affairs Council, was consulted to insure that the most current and clinically relevant information is addressed, thereby assisting the healthcare professional in the prevention and management of IFIs.

The Activities

The versatile approach of the MOVE on Mycoses initiative includes live programs, audioconferences, podcasts, and newsletters and allows for various levels of interaction and audience participation while still providing access to the same quality education, regardless of the preferred venue. Each of these activities can be found on the MOVE on Mycoses website, which provides quick, convenient accessibility to any and all information regarding this educational initiative.

The Target Audience

These activities have been designed to meet the needs of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and all healthcare professionals who care for and who may be involved in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of invasive fungal infections.

The Learning Objectives

The overall learning objectives for the initiative include being better able to:

  • Define the risk factors associated with specific fungal pathogens likely to cause clinically significant infections in high-risk patients
  • Recognize the barriers to timely diagnosis of invasive fungal infections
  • Assess the current evidence for appropriate prophylactic and empiric strategies in the treatment of IFIs
  • Evaluate the best evidence for the treatment of proven IFIs
  • Explain the issues related to the selection of appropriate antifungal therapy including pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics and relevant drug-drug interactions with concomitant therapies
The Purpose

MOVE on Mycoses is a call-to-action for healthcare professionals to enhance their clinical practices when treating IFIs. Please browse this website, the information it provides, and the various activities healthcare professionals can participate in.
